It’s Tardigrade Tuesday! 🥳 I finally learned a method to find these adorable little moss piglets more consistently from a fantastic video by @Journey to the Microcosmos where @Jam's Germs utilizes a contraption called a Baermann Funnel! Often used to collect nematodes from soils or moss, this simple setup also can collect lovely Tardigrades! Using a funnel with a cone of mesh on the inside, the moss is placed on top of the mesh and the end of the funnel is capped with a rubber tube which is pinched closed (in my case I used a glass instead). Water is then added until it is just touching the bottom of the moss. After about 24 hours nematodes and Tardigrades will migrate through the mesh and drift to the bottom of the tube or glass as neither animal is great at swimming. Now you should have a concentration of little guys sitting at the bottom of your water vessel ready to be collected and viewed 😄 Hope this is helpful for other microscopists out there, good luck!
