I'm so confused as to how it is taught without using cues. Obviously the goal is an alert but how do you teach that without starting with a cue?

YUP!!! it's one thing if you are looking for a response to a mechanical mvmt of your body (ex tremors), buy that's NOT SCENT TRAINING

my dog is trained to alert when my pupils dilate and my heart rate bc that means seizure for me would that be a cue?

in psyc. any "alert" would just be a response right? since there's a cue (hypervent., bouncing leg, etc) to cause the action? im learning haha,
