Emishi people and their descendants still live in the Northern part of Japan today by the way. I personally believe Shohei Ohtani is actually a descendant of Emishi. He’s from Iwate, which was the Emishi’s civilization was based. Emishi was known for being extremely powerful and great warriors. One famous Emishi hero is Aterui.

The Emishi and Ainu are essentially the same peoples in two different regions. They also didn’t disappear, they hybridized into modern Japanese.

Tbh I wouldn’t consider ghost populations that got breed out and assimilated the same as “extinct” as this happened dozens of times in the world

The Emishi actually moved North after facing hostility with the Yamato/Tohoku Yayoi! The popular theory at the moment is that after being pushed out of northern Honshuu they formed a culture in Hokkaido around 700 CE called the Satsumon culture, of which showed agricultural techniques, crops, and agrarian tools similar to Yamato technology. They then replaced/fused with the Epi-Jomon culture in Hokkaido and the Okhotsk in Sakhalin. So rather, they didnt go extinct, but rather developed into the Ainu!

i was cleaning an old Encyclopedia 1980 edition and the emishi and ainu was classified as Archaic Caucasians. modern genetics disproves it.
