When I was younger. In 2004. I went to Ellis island wher the statue of liberty was. Earlier this year I went back and it was on liberty island.

In my 57 yrs of life I don't recall the torch ever being open to the public. Always thought Ellis island and liberty island were separate entities.

So the Statue has always been on it's own island. The immigrants would pass the statue on their way to Ellis Island.

When I went up in the statue, you went up to the crown and could look out the windows... Did not go into the torch.
