I always put water in it, put it on the stove and get it super hot, then scrub (makes it easier) and then back on the stove to put olive oil.

if it's been left to sit like that, just get some water in it and let it heat on the stove until it softens all that gunk, then over to the sink.

Yes soap no longer has lye in it. However, cast iron soaks up oils and liquids ( soap included ). To each their own, I just don’t like the soapy taste

I’d suggest seasoning it a few times in the oven. My cast irons pans are pretty much non stick now. All I have to do is rinse with water now.

Umm, two days! If you had filled the pan with hot water as soon as it was empty, it would have wiped out clean.
