A Gift of Service: Supporting a Local Public Servant in Need Benedict Amodeo of Carmel, NY, dedicated over 40 years of his life to serving the community through the Yonkers Post Office—as a carrier, supervisor, and eventually Postmaster. A proud former baseball standout and lifelong San Francisco Giants fan, Mr. Amodeo has also spent much of his life battling the effects of degenerative disc disease and nerve damage, conditions that once prevented him from fulfilling his dream of serving in the U.S. Marines. Despite chronic pain and undergoing 10 surgeries, Mr. Amodeo has remained resilient. In recovery since 1989, he now pays it forward by mentoring and counseling local youth, offering them hope and guidance. Recently, a serious fall caused further injuries—tearing his rotator cuff and cartilage, worsening his existing back and nerve conditions, and making day-to-day tasks incredibly challenging. He is currently seeking nursing support just to manage daily life. When searching for help to repair damage to his home caused by the fall, neighbors recommended Honey Do Men. After an in-home visit, our Remodeling Consultant, Kip Williams was deeply moved by Mr. Amodeo’s story and recommended him for our Good Samaritan Program. Launched in 2018, the Good Samaritan Program is Honey Do Men’s way of giving back—providing free home repairs to individuals, families, or nonprofits facing hardship or life-altering circumstances. It’s our belief that even small acts of service can make a big difference. We were honored to help. Our skilled team repaired and repainted the damaged wall in Mr. Amodeo’s home—at no cost to him. It was a simple act, but one filled with heart. A devout Seventh-Day Adventist, Mr. Amodeo continues to show up for life and for his community, attending church each week in his Sunday best, even as mobility grows more difficult. When asked about the repairs, he shared: “Honey Do Men is a great company that cares about people in our community. It's not about the money. It's a gift from God. I still can't believe I didn’t have to pay anything. They were very professional, and kind throughout the whole process. I would definitely recommend Honey Do Men if you ever need repairs in your home.” We are humbled by the opportunity to serve Mr. Amodeo. His strength, faith, and compassion inspire us—and remind us why we do what we do. Helping hands. Healing homes. That’s the Honey Do Men way.
