I’m an ER nurse and always say ‘in an emergency I would rather be looking at it not looking for it’

I wish patients understood how anxious it makes me when they refuse IVs. I obviously respect their wishes, but again it’s the security net.

What’s scarier than an IV? Having to get one placed when your hemorrhaging, your BP is 60/nada, having no rerun on the IV

As someone whose had a crash csection, you don’t want them to have to take a time out to place an IV. Every second counts.

Time can be the loss of life in an emergency situation. An IV is a must. Emergency situations can go south quickly without an IV site.

It took 4 nurses w/ a vein finder to get my kiddos iv in. We go in monthly for this so they know what veins usually work. It was not quick or easy.

Just get the IV. IIO and jugulars are very painful especially after they have to do it emergently. Trust us!

And during a hemorrhage, there is simply less blood in your veins and your veins start to collapse. An IV is a really simply way to be safer.
