The first time Bella had a meltdown was because we ate all the bread without leaving some for her. The second time was because she wants me to open a the cracker packaging for her instead of her daddy, her daddy opened it and she went into a full meltdown (Yup, it’s all food related) Tantrums can happened because your child is frustrated, angry, tired, hungry, sick etc and they can’t convey their feelings properly. For us, it may seems like our child is being unreasonable, but trying to talk sense into them while they are having a meltdown can make it worse. While it is recommended that you don’t stop a tantrum, you can try to prevent. For young toddlers who can’t speak well, teaching them sign language will help them convey their message. For older toddlers, try to find out what is the trigger for the meltdown. Toddler meltdowns or tantrums are developmentally normal. When your toddler is having a meltdown, it is NOT a bad or naughty behavior. While it may be hard for parents, please remember it is even harder for your child because it’s their first time experiencing these “big feelings,” and they do not know how to deal with and regulate their emotions. There are three things to remember when this happens: 1. Stay calm, be present, and listen (say less). 2. Don’t distract them while they are experiencing these “big feelings.” 3. Don’t try to avoid or stop the tantrum. Let them “vent,” feel the feelings, and let it all out. We have to validate their feelings and let them feel it. This way, they will learn how to regulate their emotions and eventually calm themselves. Bella’s first meltdown took an hour for her to calm down. This time, it took her 30 minutes. #toddlertantrums #mumlife #momlife #toddlerlife #momblogger #firsttimemom #parentlife #parentingtips #gentleparenting #motherhoodjourney #parenthood #motherhoodintheraw #rawmotherhood #momanddaughter #stayathomemum
