You’ve probably driven past this iconic Denver steakhouse many times, but if you’ve never been inside, you’re missing out. Bastien’s built this beautiful mid century modern restaurant in 1958, but even before that, they were located in the old Moon Drive Inn for 20 years. They’ve now been in business for a total of 88 years, which is a feat in and of itself. I always love visiting Bastien’s. As soon as you step through the door, you’re transported back to a time when Eisenhower was in office, Sinatra was topping the charts, and Doris Day was gracing the big screen. The shape of the mid century restaurant is very unique with multiple levels, and a sunken bar. Photos of the Rat Pack and Marilyn Monroe hang on the walls, and big band jazz plays in the background, while you sip your old fashioned or dirty martini. Bastien’s is home to the famous “sugar steak”, which is just as described - a steak grilled to medium rare with their famous sugar rub. If beef and sugar sounds like an off-putting combination to you, I would say, don’t knock it till you try it! It’s absolutely delicious. 🤤 If sugar isn’t your thing, they also offer other options to pair with your steak like, jalapeno, garlic brie, horseradish, or caramelized onion. On this trip, we tried: 🥩New York Strip Steak with the Sugar Rub - served with baked potato, sauteed vegetables, and French onion soup 🍔Sugar Burger - with the famous sugar rub, and served with steak fries For drinks, we ordered a classic gimlet with gin (my favorite), and a smoked manhattan. For dessert, we opted for the Sizzling Fruit Skillet with peaches and vanilla ice cream. It was divine. 😍 I truly hope that Bastien’s will continue to thrive in Denver for many years to come.
