Actually it depends on the school. Dorfschulen mostly only have religion but most city-schools offer a phylosophy/ethics class for those who don't

I and most of my classmates had "Ethics" instead of religion class. And Jugendweihe instead of confirmation (money is the same, tho).

Ich hab das Gefühl das die meisten jungen Leute nicht mehr religiös sind, mich eingeschlossen. Glaube in Amerika ist es noch viel üblicher als hier 😅

an meiner schule war das mit dem reli unterricht nur eine wahl (wenn man nicht wollte hatte man ein anderes fach) so dass auch muslimische schüler

Reli in der Schule lernt man zwar am Anfang viel christliches, aber spätestens ab der Sekundarstufe geht’s dann auch um andere Religionen und Ethik.

School have to OFFER religion classes (also highly questionable) but in no Bundesland kids can be forced to attend (if parents agree). Never!!
