not really, common rail is way more efficient while being less smokey, you can have a relatively smokeless common rail at 400HP but a 400HP 12v is-

Common Rail is way better than pumps, just a bit more sophisticated, though easier in maintenance (e.g. not having to care abt when changing timing)

Mechanical sucks. If you’re tuning for efficiency or power(same thing) you want efi, a lot easier to program solenoids than change cams
