I loved this movie. I thought it was astounding. But it also gave me a panic attack because the advertising lied and the trigger warning was lazy. The craziest part of all of this is that I’m so aggressively discussing this singular part of the film that people are under the impression that it triggered me so much worse than it did. I am not making these videos to make myself feel better. I am making these videos because every woman I know has been assaulted in some way. Every woman I know has to think about how they are going to walk down the street on a normal day to avoid being harmed. Every woman I know already knows the issue that is looked at in this movie. And EVERY. SINGLE. WOMAN. I. KNOW. handles their trauma differently. And I know so many women who would think this is a safe film. And who would (like so many others) assume that the trigger warning is referring to things being done off screen or talked about. And they would go through the movie and then their trauma would hit them. I am making these videos because there are people out there who will want to support this rockstar cast and this amazing female director and they will then be harmed because none of the advertising did the film any actual justice. Just because YOU feel seen, it does not mean that what they did was okay. You would still have felt seen if the film had properly advertised itself for the plot in question instead of making it a “surprise.” That is not a healthy surprise. @Serenity
