I was told it was a "minor" holiday because of the rules we have to follow. Like major holidays require no working etc and minor you can work during.

You could make the case for the "minor" thing because there are only 3 aliyot on Chanukah & 7 on Shabbas & 6 on Yom Kippur and 5 on Pesach, Sukot +
