They only need trimmed if there's health issues. Cats take care of their own claws. My cat is 11 and never trimmed them... they're immaculate.

pro tip. as a kitten play with their paws alot while you hold them. when they snuggle you start stretching their claws to mimic cutting them

My cat gets regular-ish nail trims at his vet, & while he keeps the front claws fairly short w a scratching post, the back ones always need trimmed!
