Data centers are finally being forced to pay more of the costs of the massive amounts of electricity and infrastructure they require. My question is… why wasn’t that the deal from the beginning? If a billion-dollar tech company wants to build a facility that consumes enormous amounts of power, why should everyday people see THEIR utility bills go up to help support it? You want the data center? You need the new power plants, transmission lines and grid upgrades? Pay for it. The public shouldn’t be subsidizing Big Tech’s AI expansion through higher electric bills while these companies rake in billions. Data centers paying their own way isn’t some radical new policy. It should’ve been common sense from day one. Stop sending Big Tech’s electric bill to the rest of us. 🤷‍♀️
