On my profile, I usually tell you about all the active things you can do with your child. But today, I want to tell you about why eye contact and presence in the moment are just as important. Eye contact is important for brain development. When your baby gets enough eye contact, the ability to communicate and create an emotional connection develops. When you have a small baby, the long-awaited first words are still months away. But communication begins long before those first words. The early non-verbal forms of communication are crucial to your child’s future language development. The special relationship you create with your baby during eye contact increases their sense of safety and allows the brain to develop. When your baby sees your eyes and face, they start to make connections between different expressions and emotions (e.g. a smile means joy). Your baby learns to respond to various facial expressions and develops the ability to relate to others. I also set up my 401k this week so if you need me I’ll be crying into the tissue I washed dried and saved because I can’t afford new ones #fyp #studentloans #studentproblems
A few days ago, I shared a post about what research says regarding swaddling - is it okay to swaddle your baby, and when should you start phasing it out? Today’s post is a follow-up, so you’re equipped with practical tips on how to phase out swaddling. You can do this, of course, with sensory-stimulating exercises as in my bestselling program, but it also makes sense to use a transitional half-swaddle during the process. In the half-swaddle, your baby’s legs are free to move, while the arms remain securely in place. If your baby seeks movement and/or experiences bodily restlessness during sleep, daily sensory stimulation can be a big help and very comforting for them. You can find inspiration and specific exercises for this in my program “Develobaby - Sleep”, available on my website. Go to my website of link in bio for the link.
