some moms are so busy trying to give their kids a beautiful childhood that they’re missing the part where childhood is mostly just… being home with you. and i’ve really been thinking about that. because of course i want to give my kids experiences. i want trips. fun places. cool memories. birthday stuff. things they’ll talk about when they’re older. i want money to open doors for them and let them experience more of the world. but i don’t want to become so obsessed with creating “core memories” that i forget the regular shit is what they’re actually growing up inside of. music playing while dinner is cooking. everybody talking over each other. me yelling “WHO DID THIS?” from another room. 😭 their favorite snacks randomly showing up after i went grocery shopping. riding in the car talking about absolutely nothing. laughing at some dumb inside joke that wouldn’t make sense to anybody else. clean sheets. movie nights. random hugs. their dad and me laughing in the kitchen. some dinners being good as hell. some dinners being a complete setup. 😂 them knowing they can come find me when something feels wrong. knowing home is somewhere they can exhale. that matters to me way more than making our life look perfect. i don’t need them to grow up and say, “my mom planned the cutest shit.” i want them to say… “home felt good.” “we laughed a lot.” “i knew i was loved.” “i knew somebody had me.” because i’m realizing more and more that motherhood doesn’t need to be this constant performance. everything doesn’t need a theme. everything doesn’t need a picture. everything doesn’t need to become some huge unforgettable experience. sometimes the memory is literally just pizza on the floor. music too loud in the kitchen. everybody piled into one room. a random tuesday that felt safe. and maybe that’s enough. actually… maybe that’s the whole damn point. if you’re trying to build a home your kids can actually feel good inside of too, stay over here. we’re choosing connection over performance every time.
