Heavier strings are mostly useful for tuning stability in lower tunings, or for short scale instruments. if you play 12s in standard, you need therapy

how does downtuning effect them? will a set of 12s tuned to c standard sound like 9s at standard?

Beato did that experiment a while back on YouTube. The lighter gauges are definitely clearer. Heavy gauges are necessary in certain situations though.

For electric i def agree, but there is a major difference in the sound, projection and dynamics playing acoustic, especially getting into 14..

The average listener probably doesn’t even know what string gauge is anyways, idk why people get so pressed about it

If you can hear a difference it’s not the strings it’s the difference in guitars the strings don’t alter the sound much

I mean, the definition of "heavy" is pretty subjective. I definitely feel like heavier strings offer more sustain tho

I do like the smaller gauge (although I don't have an electric guitar) but I like the rough sound on the 12 gauge I think it sounds better
