I have a theory about why AI-generated graphic design all has the same uncanny “AI look.” I don’t think it’s just bad taste. I think AI learned from design templates as if they were finished designs. Anyone who worked in graphic design in the late 2000s or 2010s probably knows exactly the look I’m talking about. Sites like Envato were full of PSDs that were never meant to be the final product — they were ingredients. You’d buy them because one or more elements were useful, then make them your own. If you just dragged in your text and hit export, everyone could tell. It had a very specific “template” look. Now I feel like AI has somehow averaged that aesthetic into its own visual language, and that’s why so many AI posters feel instantly recognizable. Simply put, they’re remixing decades of professional graphic design templates and tools that were never supposed to be the finished work. I can’t prove it. It’s just a theory. But if you’ve spent enough time around design, I have a feeling you know exactly what I mean. Curious whether other designers see this too. #graphicdesign #aiart #designtheory #aiposter
