After the heartbreaking school shooting in Oregon, I’m asking parents, grandparents, guardians, and community members across Oklahoma to turn our concern into action. As a father, I want every child to come home safely. Our teachers deserve to come home to their families, too. 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗨𝗣. 𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗞 𝗨𝗣. 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗬 𝗜𝗡𝗩𝗢𝗟𝗩𝗘𝗗. Attend school board meetings. Contact your superintendent and state lawmakers. Organize respectful parent groups and ask for funded improvements with clear deadlines. Here is what I’m calling for: • A dedicated, properly trained school resource officer at every elementary school, with coverage throughout the school day. • Professionally planned metal detectors and staffed screening at every entrance used for admission—including exit doors if they also allow entry. Exit-only doors should prevent unauthorized entry while allowing immediate evacuation without screening or obstruction. • Secure entrances, working classroom locks, clear threat-reporting procedures, accessible counseling, and practiced emergency plans. • State funding that supports every district, including small towns and rural schools. Officers and equipment are only part of the solution. Families can help by reporting threats promptly, securing firearms at home, talking with their children, and joining school-approved volunteer programs. Ask your district: When was our campus last assessed? What improvements remain unfinished? Who is responsible, and when will they be completed? Families deserve progress updates without exposing sensitive security details. 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗜𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗔𝗟𝗢𝗡𝗘.
