I’ve been thoroughly impressed at how well the Gemma 4 26B model has done with my coding. Why not 31B? I wondered that too. 31B is a depth model whereas 26B is a mixture of experts (MOE) — you may already understand this, but a depth model loads all parameters for everything where a mixture of experts model only loads about 4B per task, routing it to the appropriate authority first. The difference in quality between the two is within 1-3%, depending on task. 31B is better for reasoning. 26B seems as good or better at coding. #agenticai #localai #aibeginners #ai #honestai
