PurpleMockingbird :
💯 The approach of “I read about X on your website. Can you tell me more about X/a specific aspect of X?” is one that all interviewees should know.

When I was a little girl, I toyed with a few different career paths: singer, first female president of the United States, and employee at the best company on earth, @google . I didn’t know what any of those were at the time but one thing I knew for sure… I was going to be whoever the heck I wanted to be. When I’d tell my mom my ambitions she’d say, “así va ser mi hija” (that’s how it’ll be). So not once did I doubt myself. Until now. For my entire life, my path has been set. Graduate high school, go to college, get a good job, get married and have kids. I’ve checked it all off the list. What happens next? When the job your dreamed of is yours, when you hit financial milestones that you longed for, when you’re finally getting a taste of a healed nervous system. Now what? As I embark on my last days at Google, I’m experiencing a flood of emotions. It wasn’t just a job. It was stability. It was part of my identity. It was a safe place to learn. It was home. And now I’m saying “bye” to all of it. Not because it’s not those things anymore, but just like when you’re a teen and are begging your mama y papa for more freedom…. It’s time for me to move on. Growth is scary. I’ve never gone through it and enjoyed every moment. So I anticipate these last few days, months, maybe even a whole year… to be filled with confusion, curiosity, and lots of care (for myself). I’m choosing hard. And I am so grateful my immigrant parents engrained grit in me, because easy has never been the path I was designed to walk through. Are you in a life transition? What’s something hard you’re currently choosing? 🤎
