🇫🇷 You'll NEVER use your French! 🇫🇷 Or WILL you?! A lot of people don't think French is a useful language to learn. Well, let me tell you how much I used my French in the past year alone: 🐚 In September, I learned that many people in Mauritius are more comfortable speaking French than English, so I spoke French to them. 🌋 On the island of La Réunion, I booked a tour with a guide who only spoke French and taught me the island's history. 🇲🇬 Then in Madagascar, where French is the primary second language, I actually made local friends while speaking French, and I helped translate for my friends. 🌴 In December, I visited two French Caribbean islands -- Martinique and St. Martin -- and used my French quite a bit in both destinations. 🥖 In March, I traveled to France: to Toulouse, Narbonne (for Les Grands Buffets!), Montpellier, and Marseille, and I spoke French the whole time in those cities. 🎨 In April, I met Uzbek artist @rafael_toshev in Bukhara, and though I didn't speak Uzbek or Russian and he didn't speak English, we spoke in French as we painted together for an hour or so. 🪻In July, I returned to France -- to Provence this time -- and my French helped me understand a Mother of the Groom speech at @germanbackpacker's wedding. Cheering on France in the World Cup in Nîmes was great, too! 🪘And my Frenh-speaking travels will continue! In January, I'm heading to a new French-speaking country: Senegal! Overall, French might not seem as useful as Spanish, at least in the US. But there are SO many places around the world where knowing French opens doors for you. Where's your favorite French-speaking destination?
