Peter Grossman testified on Friday about a "documentary" being produced about his wife's prosecution and imprisonment. Attorney Brian Panish asked Grossman about the documentary during the punitive damages phase of the wrongful death lawsuit against Rebecca Grossman and Scott Erickson for the Sept. 29, 2020, deaths of brothers Mark and Jacob Iskander, who were in a crosswalk when Grossman struck them in Mercedes-Benz AMG. Jurors on Wednesday said Erickson and Grossman are liable for $176 million in damages. They also said they acted with malice or oppression (or fraud for Erickson), which opens them to punitive damages. Peter Grossman, a prominent plastic surgeon whose father founded the Grossman Burn Foundation, is a defendant because his wife's SUV was registered in his name. He didn't testify in the liability phase, but he's a key witness as jurors consider punitive damages because the damages are to correlate with Rebecca Grossman's assets and Panish told jurors she's trying to shield assets from the Iskanders. Panish asked him about the documentary early in his approximately two hours on the witness stand on Friday. He referenced Paul Huebel in the courtroom, whom Grossman described as "a former newscaster, or news figure, and he is also an investigator." Grossman said he and his wife aren't paying for a documentary but "people have asked us to make a documentary." "You showed episodes of the documentary. You and your wife have watched them together, haven't you, sir, of the documentary?" Panish asked. "I have shown my wife some rough footage of it, yes," Grossman said. "And the documentary is done. It's all been filmed, right?" Panish asked. "Yes," Grossman answered. "How many episodes have been filmed?" Panish asked. "I don't have the knowledge of that. I've spoken to them a couple of times, and I don't know how much has been filmed or how much of it is completed," Grossman answered. "You and your wife watch the documentary segments together, don't you?" Panish asked. "I believe I showed her the footage one time, sir," Grossman answered. "And Marla Maples, she's been involved in helping in the documentary, right?" Panish asked. "She has been involved, yes, sir," Grossman answered. "And Howie Mandel is another one you recruited to be involved in this documentary, right?" Panish asked. "Not to my knowledge, sir," Grossman answered. Grossman said he's "not privy" to the production details but "I know that there is people are making a documentary." "I certainly have not objected to it, but I have not had anything to do with the financing of it," he said. Grossman said he believes the "that at one time there was a title called Gross Injustice." "It's called Judicial Misconduct, isn't it, sir?" Panish asked. "I have no idea about that, sir," Grossman answered. #law #court
