everyone in the comments is so anticarpet. it was nice carpeting! dated and worn but it was once nice and I'm sure warm and pleasant to walk on

my dad would tell you sand the stairs then mix the sawdust with wood filler to get a close match to the floor. He would always save his sawdust.
