Regular gratitude exercises (such as a gratitude journal or writing a gratitude list everyday) are unattainable for most neurodivergents because… - They require daily conscious effort & action (you have to actually remember) - It’s overwhelming if you miss one day because it’s no longer perfect so it’s hard to stay motivated to continue - I often felt like I had to wait until the start of the year/month/week to begin so I could start fresh but that’s just delaying it - If you write a list of 5 things you’re grateful for everyday, you are unlikely to look back and reflect on those gratitudes because they will probably get repetitive, surface-level and mundane This exercise…🤩🤩 - Easy to catch up on (backlog isn’t overwhelming) - Only requires effort once per week (But is extremely flexible incase you only remember once every 4 weeks. Accomodating for periods of high and low motivation) - It is more realistic to read through the notes and reflect on 52 good things that happened as they will meaningful and important. - Takes literally 5 minutes This exercise is as simple as writing one good thing for each week, and putting it in a jar. At the end of the year you have 52 good things that have happened in the year. That’s it, it doesn’t require you to buy a fancy journal or allocate 30 minutes per day. It is flexible, accomodating and you can personalise it to make it work for you. There are no rules (By no means am I dissing on other gratitude exercises, this is what I have found works for me and my ADHD because it has such low effort and low stakes, but I encourage everyone to do whatever works for them and whatever they feel motivated to do. At the end of the day, its the intention behind gratitude that is important, however that looks for you) #adhd #adhdtok #adhdinwomen #fyp #adhdtips #gratitude #newyear
