Also, talk down the debt!! The person on the phone gets paid no matter what. Talk them down by saying “I can pay it today if we bump is down to x”

also ALWAYS contest things on your credit report. a lot of times creditors sell your debt, and don't follow the laws on keeping track of it 1/2

You can also dispute it on your credit report if the debt has been sold to a 3rd party as long as you don't ever talk to the debt collectors!!!!

From experience, they also buy the debt for pennies on the dollar, you can pay off the debt for 50-75% the original

Usually you’ll receive a statement from the collections agency or it’ll show up on your credit report who its with.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ask for proof!! Most times they'll send you a promissory note that has your name typed on the line not signed and thats illegal!
