My car has a feature that heats the section of the windshield where the wipers sit so they never freeze to it. Shame I don't live somewhere that cold.

the wiper blades cushion the fall of the arm. or I use the snow brush to help slow the fall of the arm onto the windshield

I never put mine up. I just put my defrost on and by the time I do the rest of the car, my windshield is clear and ready to wipe.
