Mine still has the original lath and plaster, my walls are all plaster too. I love my old 30’s home.

Although known as horse hair plaster it rarely had horse hair. Most likely pig or cow.

1928 home has knock down plaster in the living room (barrel ceiling) and dining room. Walls are flat plaster. We are fortunate. Picture rail moldings

My 1912 house in Seattle had horse hair and asbestos in the plaster. It was a nightmare…. We had it professionally removed.

It’s often cattle hair too! The ‘smushes’ that come out of the backside are called keys and they hold the plaster up!

Also, lathes tend to be a bit rough on the front side so the plaster has a lot of surface to grip to

My home was built in c.1890 and the roof was entirely original lath and plaster under the tile. we just had it all redone as it was falling apart!
