Method to the madness! I get so many comments thinking Iām just playing a game of chance and rolling the dice, āyouāre playing Russian roulette with your lifeā people say on a daily basis. That couldnāt farther from the truth and I actually donāt do anything Iām not comfortable with and leave nothing to chance. Just because YOU donāt understand something and wouldnāt do it, doesnāt mean anything to how others operate. When I see someone doing some crazy rock climbing that I wouldnāt do, I donāt think that person is an idiot that doesnāt value their life, I think āwow thatās a person with knowledge and skills I donāt have, who is living their passion and life to the fullestā. Life has shown me that most people havenāt been taught this perspective, and thereās also a large fraction that are just plain stupid, and ya canāt fix stupid! š But for those who havenāt been taught this perspective and would like to expand their horizons, this post is your starting block! But back to my gator work; there is of course inherent risk and accidents can happen, but again I really donāt take chances, anyone who actually knows me and my work personally knows how careful and methodical I am in my work. I donāt roll the dice. Risk is never eliminated, I never claim it is and I am the first to speak about how dangerous my work can be if mistakes are made. I also donāt often engage in high risk situations, at least by my standards. My standards are not yours. This isnāt to brag, but often times my normal chill day with gators would be the most dangerous day of a regular personās life. This is largely because of their lack of experience & understanding. ALSO keep in mind I spent my 20s as a professional alligator wrestler, literally putting my head in the jaws of gators for tip money; practically everything I do now is quite tame comparatively. ~~~Our rescue gators are wild caught nuisance gators that wouldāve otherwise been destroyed. The state of Florida destroys 8,000 ānuisanceā gators annually, but we donāt have a nuisance gators problem but rather a nuisance HUMAN problem. 1k people a day move to FL, unsustainably developing the land, and a lot of ignorant people making a nuisance out of themselves. NEVER feed a wild gator, never have kids or pets near the water, and never swim in gator habitat! And of course, never attempt anything you see in my videos! If you would like to donate to the care of the sanctuary animals, we greatly appreciate any support!! Owl adaptations with Caloosa, our nonreleasable barred owl!! She was stuck by a car 10 yrs ago and deemed nonreleasable. Barred owls have highly acute hearing, which is crucial for locating prey in dense forests, even in complete darkness. Their ears are asymmetrically placed on their skullsāone ear is higher than the other. This asymmetry allows them to pinpoint the exact location of sounds in both the vertical and horizontal planes. The right ear is typically higher and angled upwards, while the left ear is lower and angled downwards, enabling them to detect sounds from different directions and elevations with remarkable precision. Their flight feathers are specialized with serrated edges that break up the turbulence caused by wing flapping, reducing noise. Additionally, the velvety texture of the feathers helps to muffle sound, allowing them to glide silently towards their prey. This silent flight capability not only aids in sneaking up on prey but also ensures that the owl can hear even the faintest sounds during flight, further enhancing its hunting efficiency. ~~If you would like to donate to the care of the sanctuary animals, we greatly appreciate any support!!
