Wat voor ons minder leuke momenten zijn, is het uit elkaar halen van onze tweeling. Omdat Wes en Loïs zoveel verschillen in gewicht moest Loïs soms al overgebracht worden naar een andere afdeling. Je hebt intensive care, high care en medium care. Dat zijn de stadia die Wes en Loïs doorlopen voor ze naar huis mogen. Loïs ging steeds zo goed dat ze al naar een andere afdeling werd overgebracht voordat wij een beetje gewend waren bij de huidige. Iets wat eigenlijk heel fijn is, maar voor ons minder leuk, omdat je kinderen niet bij elkaar liggen en je dus (nog meer) verscheurd bent als gezin. En daarnaast moest er ook zorg gedragen worden voor Wes, dat hij niet te snel naar een afdeling gestuurd werd waar hij nog niet thuishoorde, omdat zijn zus daar toevallig lag. Zorg is soms een raar iets in ons systeem. Ze liggen nu fijn weer bij elkaar op de medium care. De volgende stap is “een lager niveau” ziekenhuis in de buurt, maar wel wanneer Wes daar klaar voor is. —— One of the harder moments for us has been seeing our twins separated. Because Wes and Loïs had such a big difference in weight, Loïs sometimes had to be moved to a different ward sooner. There’s the intensive care, high care, and medium care — the stages they go through before they’re allowed to come home. Loïs was doing so well that she would be transferred to another ward before we had even gotten used to the current one. It’s something that’s actually really positive, but for us, it wasn’t easy, because it meant the twins weren’t lying next to each other, and as a family, we felt even more torn apart. On top of that, we had to make sure Wes wasn’t transferred too soon to a ward he wasn’t ready for, just because his sister had already moved there. Healthcare can be a strange system sometimes. Now they’re finally back together again on the medium care, which feels really good.
