I never thought I’d see one in a city park—too many people, too much noise. But sometimes, the rarest things appear exactly where no one’s looking for them. This photo was sent to me by Jade K., who was on a walk with friends in a botanical park just outside Ghent, Belgium. They were taking pictures of the rose bushes when she noticed something strange near a bench—a rosebud slowly walking across the stone surface. That’s not poetic language. It was literally walking. It has only one mention in an old journal, by a name Crimson Strider. Half-insect, half-flower being that mimics a rose in early bloom. From above, it looks like a fallen bud waiting to be picked up, but from the side, its thin green legs and slow, deliberate movements give it away. Some say it only moves when not directly watched—always pausing when eyes are on it. Others believe it blooms fully only at night, revealing wings made of silk-thin petals. In certain regions, sightings of the Crimson Strider are considered good luck—especially if caught on camera. Jade says it walked right past her phone as she was filming. And then, just as suddenly, it froze—like it knew it had been seen. She left it where it was. Because something that beautiful? It chooses you, not the other way around. .
