I used to use a 4 ft piece of conduit with a 2- 2" drywall screws offset to mark my switch and receptacle heights.

we'd also run a stick of ¾ PVC in the wall where the TV outlet is ( on the other side of the stud ) so people could run HDMIs from the stand to the TV

When I did my workshop, I mounted all my electrical outlets about 3 foot up, I dislike bending or searching for outlets behind stuff.

Why are outlets so high up the wall? Why not put them just above any conceivable baseboard (like 8”) so the cords don’t have to droop down the wall?
