≈1989 – First Auroras I remember I was about 5-6 years old when i saw my first auroras. I was walking on the street with my dad, and there she was – an aurora arc dancing in the sky above! 2000 – Coming of Age On the night I turned 18, a huge aurora exploded above me on the way to a club. I thought, “This might be the best birthday gift possible.” Maybe it was a sign? 2012 – Exploring Lapland In 2012, I fell in love with Lapland and began exploring & capturing its most cinematic spots. I also hoped to earn a living helping local companies with marketing — and it came true! 2013 – First Steps I also wanted to film the auroras, but knew nothing about them. After several unsuccessful tries, I finally captured my first auroras on 20.1.2013 (this exact photo). 2014–2015 – The Fun Begins I began hunting auroras — for fun! first close to home by bike, then further and further out. Some of my aurora work later appeared in the media around the world. 2016 – Aurora Tours In 2016, I started the 1st real #aurorahunting tour in #rovaniemi #lapland #finland. This was an experiment — but also a way to offer something different from mass tourism. 2020–2021 – The Pandemic In 2016, I started the 1st real aurorahunting tour in rovaniemi. This was an experiment — but also a way to offer something different from mass tourism. 2022 – New Beginning In 2022 the tourists were allowed back to lapland. Suddenly, many people were willing to join me! This allowed me to make aurora hunting my main job. 2023–2025 – Tourism Grows As tourism grew, I began running more tours — the hunts became longer & crazier, often reaching Sweden & Norway. New hunters emerged, inspired by my approach. 2026–2027 – My 15th Season! Next aurora season will be my 15th. Even though i’ve seen hundreds of auroras, I am as excited as ever!
