The Child, The Boy, The Man: I wrote and produced these lyrics and video for a Mother-Son Wedding Dance. I’ve been writing stories about life through my lyrics and poems since 1968, and I create the productions myself, with the vocal and instrumental sections digitally created. I have many adult sons, and when I look at them, I don’t see one version; I see a lifetime. I see a collection of faces, moments, growth, and memories layered together. I see scraped knees and sleepy eyes, laughter, learning, and becoming. And even now, after all these years, there are moments when I still see them as the babies I once held so closely. Not all the time, but enough to remind me that those days never truly leave a mother’s heart. Of course, life moves forward the way it’s meant to. Children grow, they become independent, and they build lives of their own. But that doesn’t erase what came before; it adds to it. And that’s what I wanted to express in these lyrics, that when a mother stands on that dance floor with her son, she isn’t just seeing the man in front of her, she’s seeing the child, the boy, and the man all at once. It’s never just one version of him; it’s always all of him, held together by love, memory, and time.
