the conveyancer will have proof of it was a gift or not - you have to account for where all the money you put down as a deposit comes from

As a mortgage adviser, I would need to have confirmation from the conveyancer that the money is a GIFT. Not something that is repayable.

Honestly, in the case of say my ex paid a lot more than me as a deposit, I'd happy give them their share. However, a gift from the parents to us, nope

when we showed our deposit fund it included a gift from my mum. she had to provide a letter to say it's a gift, she had no interest in the property...

Don’t most mortgage companies ask how you’re getting the deposit? And if you say it’s a gift, the parents would need to confirm they have no claim
