Every groomer is different and comb vs blades is up to personal preference! There are many other kinds of blades including wide blades.

I actually avoid 7's, especially if it's a matted dog. it's so easy to catch skin with those blades, I prefer either a 5 or if necessary a 10

I’m a hair stylist and I went down this rabbit hole because I’m trying to figure out why grooming blades are labeled differently than barber blades. I just wanted to say I’ve never understood why people would use guards over blades. Blades leave a much cleaner and true to length finish vs the guard/comb. It’s that way with human hair too, the guards can miss so much hair meaning more work for the barber.
