Cylindrical alignment was done by a dial gauge on the shaft and calculations for shim ,this is too simple and pipefitter here as well.

A u joint seems so much easier. Idk about how often they would need to be replaced tho. But 9000$ alignment vs 300$ u joint setup.

I'll stick to using dials if the building the motor is in is vibrating at 18hz or more the Lazeralign tools are extremely inaccurate.dials don't lie.

Since I started where I work. I tried to convince them to line the motors up right. Instead we eye ball them and rip up boots all the time.

Check yo soft foot first. Real millwrights just listen to the hermonics of it running then adjust accordingly while it’s running
