Honestly as Chinese I had heart attack for a second. 😂 Not a common culture, at least not in Shanghai tbh

I’m happy you asked and did your research. It’s not racist, I feel like the US made most “black face” painting a thing of racism 😌

I want to thank you for this post. This proves that not everything is ethnocentric or racist. They were just performing a cultural dance. Keep in mind

To clarify: I was shocked at first but refrained from passing judgement until I didn’t my own research. After doing research I realized

My opinion is you are rock star for having a dialogue and doing your research instead just assuming!

It's always nice to know how big the world actually is. I think it's hard for most Americans to realize thd world doesn't run on American 'rules'.

I love your content and how you researched it. If the musical selection was different then I would have been but it is not.

This is sculpture dance, a traditional street art. Ppl pretend to be bronze statues. Your wiki result is not relevant lol

Great research. I can understand the initial ?? The face, dance moves, music & box gave a different vibe. Maybe a mix ancient & current.

Wouldn’t take that as “blackface”, necessarily.

On the video, the face paint seems to match their entire outfit. We have people dress in Silver (Tinman) in Canada all the time. I think it's similar.

It's reasonable for anyone to be thrown off. It's not a stretch if someone's nerves were pinched seeing them. But this is great context

I think it’s alright in this context. It has a cultural context behind it, plus the Chinese weren’t the ones who put on minstrel shows

In Cuba there is a character with a black face, big red lips and padded bottom. Americans would DEFINITELY think this is blackface. It's not.
