New Mexico is facing another round of potentially dangerous weather Sunday, November 1, with severe thunderstorms, possible tornadoes and significant flooding concerns across portions of the state. The National Weather Service has highlighted a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe thunderstorms across portions of eastern and southeastern New Mexico, including areas near Roswell, Clovis and Tucumcari. Storms could produce damaging winds, hail and tornadoes. Severe weather could develop across west-central New Mexico between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., with greater confidence in severe storms along and east of the Rio Grande Valley between 5 p.m. Sunday and 2 a.m. Monday. Meanwhile, northwest New Mexico faces a Moderate Risk (Level 3 of 4) for excessive rainfall, with the greatest concern around Farmington, Chama and surrounding mountain communities. Widespread rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are forecast across western New Mexico, with the highest amounts near the Tusas Mountains. Already saturated soils from previous flooding could increase runoff, leading to flash flooding in arroyos, urban areas and locations with poor drainage. A Flood Watch remains in effect through Monday morning for much of western New Mexico, including the Tusas and Jemez Mountains. The Animas, La Plata and San Juan rivers also face a moderate to high chance of flooding, with river crests potentially occurring Monday or Tuesday. Residents are urged to stay away from riverbanks, avoid flooded roadways and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, particularly overnight. VIA: National Weather Service Albuquerque / NOAA
