As Bronx girl and native, this community means a lot to me. Despite its rough edges, beautiful things are happening in the hood. This community is filled with natives trying to make it everyday, fighting to see changes that often times feel far out of reach. Teaching this baby wearing class has been a labor of love. I always start my class teaching the history of baby wearing. Though a missionary started baby wearing and made the first carrier here… we’ve been doing this for centuries. It’s part of our culture and the more that I studied the history, the more I fell in love with wearing my babies. Baby wearing has allowed me to ride the dark waves of postpartum depression. Have adventures with my kids around the city. Hold my belly during pregnancy and most importantly encourage moms to wear their baby because meeting their needs something no one should shame them for.
