Sometimes you need to trim the wick when you get certain candles I have some that say to trim it before use

Is it a regular fire place? is it gas? If it's regular there's probably an issue with the flue. If it's gas you probably have a leak.

Cheap candles, spirits, broken chimney flu, or all of the above. I'd sage the apartment and sprinkle just a pinch of salt on the hearth. That's me 😅

The flue on your fireplace is drawing the flame. If you hold tissue paper near it you should see it being drawn towards the flue

Cut the wicks down to 1/4 “ before you light them .
