Your dad made a mistake . You need to use a low hydrogen rod like 7018. MiG wire won’t do the job on tough studs.

The head looks like cast-iron. How do you keep from welding the bolts to the head? I have done this with aluminum heads, never with cast iron.

I've never had any luck with hand wrenches.. small bolts like that a 1/4" or 3/8 Dewalt 20v impact works pretty good.

found out Impact works better just saying from welding out track roller bolts out

I’ve done that on 59 and 83 heads. I’ve had ones all 12 broke put it in the mill drill them out run a tap through it much faster
