Over a year ago, my son’s life changed forever. On January 11, 2025, my son was in a car accident that caused a Grade 3 diffuse axonal brain injury, one of the most severe types of traumatic brain injuries. This kind of injury happens when the brain is violently shaken inside the skull, damaging the brain’s nerve fibers throughout the brain. Recovery from injuries like this can take years, and sometimes a lifetime. Many people with this type of brain injury never wake up. But my son did. Over the past year we have seen small but meaningful signs. He wakes up, he moves, he groans, and sometimes it sounds like he’s trying to say “mom.” Those moments mean everything to me. Recovery from a brain injury like this is not a straight path. There are good days and there are setbacks. When he gets sick, his responsiveness sometimes goes down and it can feel like we take steps backward before moving forward again. But today, he is still here. He is stable. And he is still fighting. As his mom, I am so incredibly proud of him. His strength has shown me what true resilience really looks like. Brain injuries don’t always show progress the way people expect, but for us every sound, every movement, every moment he opens his eyes is a victory. Please continue to keep my son in your prayers. This journey is long, but we are still holding on to hope and celebrating every step he takes in his own time. For those who have asked how they can help, Cody’s GoFundMe is in my bio. Every prayer, share, and bit of support truly means the world to our family. If you’re able, please say a prayer for Cody or share this post to help keep his story going.
