LIKE SHARE COMMENT FOLLOW 💔 🙏🏼 Day 3 in the ICU: The hope was that Duke would already be home by now. Unfortunately, that is not the case & he will continue to remain in the ICU. Since Duke’s heart had enlarged since his last vet visit & his body started to fill with fluids, his diuretic medication was given intravenously and at very, very high doses. He hasn’t eaten or drank since the Tuesday night and has not been responding to his name; only laying low in sadness and fear. Because of that, his kidney health started to decline. And with that, he has been unable to be discharge as he is unstable. His diuretic medication (Furosemide) was switched to a far more potent one in hopes that it would help his heart more without hurting his kidneys. He recieved his first dose of the new diuretic, Torsemise, late last night. We received an update this morning from the vet that he hasn’t eaten finally started to respond to his name and his spirits are lifting a little bit. He is unfortunately still not eating or drinking and his kidney levels are too high to come home. The decision was made to have him go under (a very risky move given his heart condition) to insert a nasal fluid tube to get him fluids. IV is not an option in his case because it can adversely affect his heart. We have not received another update yet but do know that he will continue his stay in the ICU. We’re thankful for the doctors and vet techs who have been taking care of Duke over the last few days. Financially, it’s been a big hit. That’s why we ask for you to help Duke go viral so we can continue to afford treatment. He is the greatest gift and we’re thankful to have the opportunity to get him help.
