My postpartum nurse told me this hack before I left the hospital and I swear it’s one of the only reasons 3am doesn’t completely break me anymore 😭 She basically said, “When you’re awake with the baby in the middle of the night, stop scrolling everyone else’s daytime.” At the time I was like okay sure lol. Then I got home with a newborn and understood EXACTLY what she meant. Because there is something uniquely awful about being awake at 3:17am, running on basically no sleep, feeding a baby for what feels like the 400th time, and opening your phone to see someone at brunch 😂 Or somebody’s clean kitchen. Or a mom doing a morning routine in matching pajamas. Or a reel that’s like “5 things I do before my kids wake up ✨” Ma’am. My kid never went to sleep 😭 And I noticed the more I scrolled, the worse I felt. Everyone else’s life looked like it was moving while mine had basically become this weird loop of feed, burp, change, rock, attempt crib transfer, fail crib transfer, repeat. So I started doing something different. At night, I stopped looking at everybody’s highlight reels. I started looking for people who were actually awake WITH me. And omg. Completely different feeling. The first time I opened this map at like 3am and realized every little light was another mom awake right then, I just stared at it. Hundreds of us. Some feeding newborns. Some pumping. Some rocking babies who absolutely refused to be put down. Some probably googling “why does my baby grunt so much” for the 19th time 😂 Some crying. Some eating snacks over the sink. Some sitting in the dark trying not to wake their partner. Some just scrolling because they needed another adult human being to exist somewhere. 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️ And for some reason seeing those lights made my shoulders drop. Like oh. Okay. It’s not just me. There are literally moms all over the place doing this exact same invisible night shift. Nobody looks cute. Nobody has a morning routine. Nobody is asking me to optimize anything 😂 We’re just awake. Together. And now when I’m up with the baby, I try to keep my phone in “3am mode.” No comparing. No doomscrolling. No reading comments that make me question every parenting decision I’ve ever made. No watching someone meal prep while I’m eating crackers in bed 😂 I look at the other moms awake. Sometimes I read what they’re saying. Sometimes I light my little beacon so they know I’m awake too. 🕯️ Sometimes that’s literally all I need. Because 3am can make you feel like you’re the only person left on earth. The house is silent. Your partner is sleeping. Your friends are sleeping. The baby is somehow both exhausted AND refusing to sleep. And your brain starts doing that fun thing where suddenly every problem you’ve ever had needs to be analyzed immediately 😅 But then you see all those little lights. New York. California. Indiana. Texas. Somewhere across the world where another mom is probably staring down at a baby thinking PLEASE JUST CLOSE YOUR EYES 😂😭 And it feels less heavy. So yeah. My postpartum nurse was right. Stop scrolling everybody else’s daytime when you’re living through the middle of your night. Find the people who are awake with you instead. ❤️ Because sometimes you don’t need advice. You don’t need another sleep tip. You don’t need someone telling you to “enjoy every moment.” You just need proof that somewhere, another mom is awake too. And at 3am, that can be enough. 🥹🌙💛 #mom #baby #MomsofTikTok #momtok #momlife
