You cannot hold a man accountable for outcomes while denying him the authority to lead toward those outcomes. Yet this is exactly what happens in many marriages. If the family has no direction, he should have led. If the finances are a mess, he should have made better decisions. If the children are out of order, he should have stepped up. Scripture immediately commands the husband toward sacrificial love. But neither can we erase headship because authority makes modern sensibilities uncomfortable. You cannot give two people the final word and call that order. Somebody will ultimately yield.
