🍄 What Are Dreams Made Of? 👁️ This was an IPA can design for Verdant Brewing Co, built on a process I come back to constantly. Start with four keywords tied to the brief. Separate them into boxes. Run word associations within each one. Then connect the meaning between boxes. That step's essential. It's where deeper ideas start to surface and the creative magic happens. In this case, mouth came up under flavour. Missing teeth showed up under dreams. That led to the character you see. An abstract collision of taste, subconscious symbolism, and meaningful abstraction. The shadows allude to depth of flavour and you can just see how quickly you can build a rich world full of meaning and play. I designed two cans from the same logic. One minimal and surreal, the other bolder, also surreal, and more pattern driven. This brief actually landed me a job with the brewers at a time I really needed it. Looking back on this project in 2026, I'm seeing more and more AI generated packaging in shops 🤦‍♂️ Does it do a job? Hmm, I'm not sure. But it's always missing the thing that made me fall in love with design in the first place. Thought. Curiosity. Human experience. The strange connections that happen when you sit with an idea long enough. Symbolism. Dreams. Missing teeth. Exaggerated worlds. This was a real brief for a real brewery. The storytelling came out of it, and ultimately, it landed me a job at a time I really needed one. The can at the start of this video is simply a vehicle to tell that story and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the brewery in any way. As for these posts, this will likely be one of the last in this format for a while. I'll be experimenting with some new ways of sharing my work whilst hopefully retaining the same spirit and vibe you've all come to know! Thank you for following the series so far. It's been awesome.
