I think they do this bc if they gave it away, they become liable if someone decides to sue for whatever reason if they get sick or something.

in my country they don't throw things away they always sell it for a low price just like food you can pick up a box for a low price

Also Aldi is a very good donator in our area. Three days a week. Some of the issues are just logistics people. Go volunteer and help
