𝙊𝙙𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙊𝙥𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙖: That’s right folks—I’m YAPPING TODAY 🚨 Can you really blame me though? There are just so many fantastic animals that have roamed our planet, & sometimes I just have to take the time to highlight some of the most bizarre & the most astounding. Creatures like opabinia truly stand as the perfect embodiment of all the strange & fascinating creatures that have lived on our planet & can help us to better understand the journey that life on earth has undergone for the last 500 million years. Put simply, we (humans) are the latest iteration of the greatest story ever told, & we owe it to our home planet to make sure the story continues and doesn’t end with us. The more we understand the past faces of Earth, the more we will be able to better live in harmony with our planet during the modern era. #science #animals #educational #history #dinosaurs #evolution #nature #earth #wildlife #cambrian #anomalocaris #opabinia

𝗢𝗳 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗸𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗱 & 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝘀: 𝚂𝚌𝚒𝚎𝚗𝚝𝚒𝚏𝚒𝚌 𝙽𝚊𝚖𝚎: 𝘋𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘶𝘴 𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘹𝘪𝘱𝘱𝘶𝘴 To say that insect populations around the United States have plummeted in the past few decades is an understatement to the gravest degree. Despite the sheer scale of this growing ecological catastrophe, there are few species—insect or otherwise—that better represent the rapidly growing loss in our nation’s overall biodiversity than the monarch butterfly. In the past 40 years alone, Eastern monarch populations have dropped by over 80% & Western populations have declined even more severely at around 99%. Loss of viable habitats is the greatest decimator to these beautiful insects, and the only way to turn the tide is to try to replenish some of that lost habitat. With that being said, milkweed is obviously a crucial part of the monarch’s life cycle, so if you have good soil and can spare a pot or two, PLEASE CONSIDER PLANTING SOME NATIVE MILKWEED. Personally, I like to pick and propagate milkweed from areas that are typically heavily mowed or maintained (i.e public roadsides, parking lot mulch beds, etc.). I’m 100% not recommending going out & ripping out perfectly fine & healthy wild milkweed. But if the plant is doomed because of its location, I see no problem relocating that plant. If that’s not your thing, then you can always visit www.milkweed4monarchs.org which has a list of every state’s native milkweed species and even seeds you can order. #animals #nature #butterfly #monarchbutterfly #milkweed #gardening #conservation #science #outdoors #education
